Title: How Children To Learn Well In Mandarin. 習說講漢語 孩子怎樣學好漢語? 新加坡國父給華人父母支招 Father Of Singapore Master Lee Kuan Yew Giving Chinese Parents Some Tips 2009年03月20日 據新加坡《聯合早報》18日報道,由于世界環境的改變,使得漢語成為必要的溝通工具,新加坡『國父』李光耀建議新加坡人在日常生活中多和孩子講漢語,讓孩子學好漢語,必對他們的前途大有裨益。 According to the Singapore News report on the 18th: Owing to changes in global environment, mandarin has become the essential tool in communication, 在17日舉行的『常年講華語運動』開幕式上,李光耀發表演說,呼應家長注意漢語的重要性。李光耀曾任新加坡總理,被譽為『新加坡國父』,是現今新加坡政壇極具影響力的人物之一。 李光耀說,漢語是全球華人的共同語言,是中華文化的主要載體,漢語不僅是中國13億人口的通行語言,現在也成為和世界溝通的必要工具。『如果孩子能夠學好華語,必對他們的前途大有裨益。』On the 17th at the “Speaking Mandarin Through The Year” campaign, lee Kuan Yew call the attention of parents to focus on the importance of mandarin . Being the retired Prime Minister of Singapore , a person of very high profile and political influence remarked that mandarin is the common language of global Chinese , as the Chinese main stream culture, it’s not only used by 13 Billion s population in China , has become the essential tool in world communication. “ The prospect for the child is bright if he knows mandarin which will be useful in the child’s future” 李光耀鼓勵講漢語家庭的家長在日常生活中和孩子多講漢語,為孩子日後學習漢語打好基礎。『如果孩子在家里是跟家長說漢語,他們在高中或大學里就能輕易地學好華文。』 新加坡是一個以英語為主要用語的地方,為學習英文提供了非常有利的條件,孩子日後要掌握一定水平的英文不成問題。 Lee Kuan Yew encouraged parent communicate with their children daily at home, laying a good foundation for mandarin learning when the child grow up. It would be easy for learning in university.Since Singapore many people can speak English well, the natural environment to learn English ( any time) is not a problem at all. 『但隨著越來越多家庭講英語,要學好華語就成了大問題。所以,今天的講華文運動所面對的主要挑戰並不是華語與方言的抗爭,而是扭轉華人家庭講英語的趨勢。』 李光耀說。 He said more and more parents speaking English at home is the obstacle for their child learning mandarin. Therefore, in this mandarin speaking campaign the challenge is not with dailact at home but thecommon tendency of using English in the home Lee Kuan Yew said, since early 90 the the home use of Mandarin is decreasing to 40% now, on the other hand English has increased from 26% to 60 %. According to statistic Chinese forms 75% of Singapore population. He urged parents not to teach children dialect. “This will waste the resources’ and opportunity of learning English and Mandarin , moreover dialect pronunciation , vocabulary and syntax is not in unification with Mandarin, destroying the abilibility to learn up Mandarin properly. Why giving the child the unnecessary problem? Why not let children learn well in English and Madarin? ?』(雷東瑞)【來源: 新華網] MICHAELSNE TRASLATION FROM THE ORIGINAL TEXT.and my comment is 100% in agreement with what Lee Kuan Yew said.
